MAPPING THAILAND

TITLE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate where Thailand is located.
  2. Students will be able to explain the periods of Thailand's history.
  3. Students will be able to name a former Thai capital city.
  4. Student will be able to name several major cities of Thailand.
  5. Student will be able to draw the map of Thailand.

RESOURCES:

PROCEDURES:

  1. Students will be placed in groups of four and will then go to the computer lab.
  2. Each group will use given URLs to access the Internet for searching information about Thailand's history.
  3. Students will summarize history of Thailand and will out the Thailand's map.
  4. Each group will draw the map of Thailand and her surrounding countries on different color paper (in exact proportion fitting to the size of posterpaper).
  5. Each group will cut and post maps on the posterpaper along with name of major cities in each part of country.
  6. Students will place the a summary of Thailand's history beside the map and tern in a copy to instructor on one piece of paper.
  7. Each group will present the poster map to class in the next class day.

PLAYING WITH THE THAI LANGUAGE

TITLE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to use a searched engine searching for a needed application.
  2. Students will be able to download an application through the Internet.
  3. Students will be able to install an application.
  4. Students will be able to explain basic Thai language.
  5. Students will be able to speak Thai at least one word.
  6. Students will be able to write and pronounce at least two Thai alphabets
  7. Students will be able to count Thai numbers.

RESOURCES:

PROCEDURES:

  1. Students will be placed in groups of four and go to computer lab.
  2. Students will search for Thai fonts and download to the computer.
  3. Students will install Thai fonts and configure the browser.
  4. Students will use given URLs to study Thai : copy alphabets, practice to pronounce Thai by repeating after the online instructor.
  5. Students will go back to class.
  6. Instructor will display the online lesson again.
  7. Each Student will be asked to pronounce a Thai alphabet, speak Thai, or count Thai numbers.

VISITING THAILAND

TITLE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to search for Thailand tourist place.
  2. Students will be able to plan a trip to Thailand.
  3. Students will be able to name one of the very famous historical parks of Thailand.
  4. Students will be able to name at least one of the important festivals of Thailand.
  5. Students will be able to explain DOs & Don'ts of Thailand.

RESOURCES:

PROCEDURES:

  1. Students will go to computer lab and use searched engine searching for traveling to Thailand.
  2. Each student will go through the webs that he/she searched, and the ebs given by the instructor.
  3. Each student will plan his/her own trip to Thailand by using a word processing program and save it on a disk.
  4. Each student will send e-mail the Thailand's tourist department for additional information or for a special question.
  5. Each student will present class his/her a trip plan to Thailand.

THAI CORNER

TITLE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to describe and explain significant characteristics of Thailand.
  2. Students will be able to compare and contrast Thai culture with American culture.
  3. Students will be able to observe and identify some culture aspects of Thailand such as religion, language, art and food
  4. Students will be able to make a sample trip plan to Thailand

RESOURCES:

PROCEDURES:

  1. Students will work in three groups : history, map and geography, and traveling group.
  2. Each group will use Internet feature to find out information in their assigned area.
  3. Each group will create both computer and paper presentations : PowerPoint presentation and posterboard exhibition
  4. Students will work together creating a brochure about Thailand
  5. Students will set up Thailand's exhibition corner for the week of Asian studies
