Thailand is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is full of wondrous statues, structures, animals, plants, geological sites, and people. A student visiting Thailand described her visit by saying this: "I learned the most about Thailand in the home stays where I was completely emerged in Thai culture. I learned how a girl my age carries out and lives her daily life half way around the world. I learned about Thai values and customs, food and language and the overall spirit of the Thai people - very warm, very friendly, very loving. This lesson will give students grades 9-12 a general view about Thailand.

Social Studies : Explore Thailand
Social Studies is one of an important part of the learning process for all student. And study countries around the world is one of the exciting parts of social studies. As a development of learning technology, students can use an Internet, as a tool to travel around the world even that place is in the remote area.
Although the distance from the USA to Thailand is about 1/2 of the world's parameter; students can explore Thailand in juts a minute by just clicking the mouse.
These activities provide students basic skills of using computer and an Internet. Students may have enough basic skills and can use it to explore Thailand, at the end of activities.

History of Thailand

Prehistory in Thailand
Over 10,000 years ago, man lived near the waterways in the north and central Thailand. Archaeological evidence of Neolithic settlements has been discovered in an area covering no less than 40 provinces.

Sukhothai the First Thai Capital City
Sukhothai, meaning the ''Dawn of Happiness'' was the first free Thai city founded in 1238, by two Thai chieftains, Khun Bang Klang Tao and Khun Pa Muang , this ending Khmer rule from Angkor Wat. In the early 1300s, Sukhothai enjoyed suzeranity over the Chao Phya River basin, westward to the bay of Bengal and the entire Peninsula.

The Cultures of Thailand
For cultural purposes, Thailand may be divided into four areas, namely the Northern, the North Eastern, the Central and the Southern areas.

Thai Social System
In the Thai social system, the village is the unit. It was in former days, a self-contained one in its economy and needs. The people's habits and customs were based mainly on agriculture and religion.

Buddhism
It has likewise long been a Thai custom for Buddhist males over twenty to be temporarily ordained as Buddhist monks, generally during the annual Rains Retreat.

Thai Food
Thai cooking can be readily envisioned as a work of art. The people have a natural and creative sense of beauty, and express it in many ways.

Thai Language
Thai is a tonal monosyllabio language. The same word can be said in five different ways - normal or middle tone, low, high, rising and falling.

The Royal Barges of Siam
